HUGE new plans to transform two town centre car parks by building new homes have been revealed. Colchester Council s cabinet will discuss plans for the regeneration of Vineyard Street and Britannia car parks at a meeting next week. The plans would see 190 homes built across both car parks, with just a few parking spaces retained. Disabled parking spaces will remain and be protected. CONSTRUCTION work has started on eight new council homes in Colchester. Tiptree firm TJ Evers is building six apartments and two houses on behalf of Colchester Council in Military Road. Designed by Barefoot & Gilles the homes will meet the latest environmental standards and include triple glazing, heat pumps and LED lighting. Adam Fox, councillor responsible for housing, said: Once completed this new development will provide vital new homes to local people and demonstrate our commitment to tackling the housing crisis in Colchester.” The homes should be complete early next year and are part of 350 being built by Colchester Council across the borough by 2024. ....
