ASANSOL: The CID has started a fresh probe into the illegal coal mining case in Durgapur-Asansol area, where CBI has already been conducting an investigation, reports Mohammad Asif.
The development came a day after Calcutta High Court refused to interfere with the FIR lodged by CBI against Anup Maji, alias Lala, prime accused in the case. A team led by Ajay Thakur, DIG CID (operation), conducted searches in Andal area of West Burdwan on Friday. Early morning, the team reached Kajora area where a nationalized coal mining company has its office.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)
KOLKATA: The CBI on Monday questioned senior IPS officer Tathagata Basu in connection with the illegal coal trading case the agency is investigating. Basu, who was the SP Hooghly earlier, was asked if he was privy to such rackets operating in the state.
Basu, now a deputy commissioner at Chandannagar Police Commissionerate, arrived at the Nizam Palace office of the agency at 10.30 am. He was questioned till 5 pm as officers tried to put together the missing pieces.
CBI officials had earlier alleged that Anup Maji alias Lala had been running the coal mining racket through the Asansol-Durgapur-Hooghly area.
