Chaffee County to consider splitting Tennessee Pass railroad attorney fees with Avon, Eagle County

The Chaffee County Commissioners will be the next elected body to consider joining Avon and Eagle County in hiring an attorney to examine the Tennessee Pass railroad reactivation.
for the commissioners’ Tuesday meeting contains an action item in which the body will “consider jointly retaining the law firm Kaplan Kirsch & Rockwell LLP to represent the county related to the proposed activation of freight service on the Tennessee Pass rail line and matters related to potential uses of the Union Pacific rail line through Tennessee Pass.”
In January, Eagle County and the town of Avon agreed to hire Kaplan Kirsch & Rockwell as news of the possible reactivation of the rail line, which runs though both Chaffee County and Eagle County, was breaking. ....

Colorado Midland & Pacific reaches out along rail lines

The short line railway recently secured a lease agreement for the line from the owner Union Pacific.
Concerns range from fear of crude oil shipments from Utah to the effect the reintroduction of the train might have on ecosystems and property values.
Sara Cassidy, community liason for the Colorado Midland & Pacific, stated at a recent meeting of concerned stakeholders in Leadville the railway has no intention to operate oil trains across the Tennessee Pass Line.
That speculation is connected to a proposed rail line in Utahâs Uinta Basin which will be operated by Rio Grande Pacific Corp., parent company to Colorado Midland & Pacific. ....

Colorado, Midland & Pacific Railway Company, a subsidiary of Rio Grande Pacific, issued the following press release on a deal it’s struck with Union Pacific to possibly operate future passenger and freight rail service on the dormant Tennessee Pass Line through Eagle County.
In November, a Rio Grande Pacific representative told RealVail.com that the company was working on a deal with Union Pacific that would include passenger service. This followed an offer earlier in the month by competing Colorado Pacific Railroad to run a year-round, round-trip, daily passenger train from Pueblo to Minturn.
