On Stage The Bigger the Better Big Bands Share
KUVO’s performance archive show “On Stage” showcases the most elaborate and complex assemblage of jazz musicians – the big band.
The Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio is known as an intimate space. Squeeze in 10 or more musicians and instruments, and you’ve got a VERY cozy setting. (Watch out for the trombones!)
Musically, only the ambitious seek to arrange the many parts of a jazz score for big band. And there, in the fuller, textured sound of the large ensemble is its splendor!
Colorado is graced with several outstanding big bands, including the Air Force Academy Falconaires, Jim Stranahan’s Little Big Band, the Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra and more! They’ve all played in the Phyllis A. Greer Studio.
