Compiled by Candace Krebs Governor declares Livestock Proud Day March 22 Colorado Livestock Association was joined by Colorado Dairy Farmers, Colorado Egg Producers, Colorado Pork Producers Council, Colorado Wool Growers Association and Rocky Mountain Farmers Union in requesting that Colorado Governor Jared Polis declare March 22 Colorado Livestock Proud Day. The groups were notified last Friday that the Governor had agreed to sign the declaration. The declaration specifically highlights the essential nutrients in beef and emphasizes that livestock convert solar energy into food on marginal lands. The proclamation also states, “Agriculture serves as our state’s economic backbone, generating more than $40 billion in economic activity annually and supporting more than 170,000 jobs. Livestock production contributes over $4.6 billion to Colorado’s economy.” ....
Colorado Corn - Look for the Blue Hose Thursday Feb 11th, 2021 Colorado Corn Administrative Committee is seeing success with an initiative started last fall aimed at increasing E15 sales in the Colorado Springs area. Colorado Corn Administrative Committee Executive Director Nick Colglazier says they’re asking consumers to “look for the blue hose.” Colglazier: “The whole goal is to educate consumers about the benefits of E15 and increase the number of gallons of E15 that are sold. And we’re really promoting the message that it’s a win, win, win. It’s a win for your car because it burns better and it’s better for your engine. It’s a win for the environment because it burns cleaner and it reduces tailpipe emissions in terms of toxic emissions as well as greenhouse gas emissions. Candace Krebs Newly released dietary guidelines generate mixed reactions New five-year dietary guidelines, released in late December by USDA, brought strong approval from mainstream beef, dairy and grain organizations, but left other health advocates concerned. Updated every five years, the guidelines serve as the foundation for federal nutrition policy and shape the recommendations found on USDA s MyPlate graphic. Nina Teicholz, author and executive director of The Nutrition Coalition, said the new guidelines overlook the fact that 60 percent of the U.S. population already suffers from at least one chronic, diet-related condition. Ultimately, USDA rejected recommendations from an advisory committee made up of health and medical experts, which advised lower limits on alcohol and added sugars. ....
