ASX swells with more non-bank lenders

ASX swells with more non-bank lenders
6 May 2021
More non-bank lenders are clamouring to
list on the ASX, but is it a harbinger of a permanent new banking paradigm or a
sign the bull market is nearing a peak?
We’re not talking about the buy now pay
later (BNPL) sector which has become a crowded ASX-listed cohort in its own
right.
Rather, the attention has focused on the
slew of lenders (generally unsecured) to the consumer and small business
sectors, offered digitally via funky misspelt names such as Prospa, Plenti and
Harmoney.
The business models vary, but in the
main it’s the type of lending the increasingly risk-averse banks won’t touch. ....

Boutique SME lender Grow Finance has reported a 100 per cent increase in finance over the March quarter, underscoring the turnaround in business confidence and investment since December.
Grow Finance has been in business since 2015 and has issued more than $700 million in loans to more than 12,000 customers. It says it is the only non-bank lender to provide asset finance, business loans, invoice finance, trade finance and insurance premium finance.
Second-hand delivery vans are the latest hot ticket item among SMEs looking to invest.
Executive director Greg Woszczalski said the firm loaned customers a record $22 million last month with $13.5 million alone in asset finance as conditions picked up and businesses embraced the opportunities presenting themselves. ....

Blackstone-backed LaTrobe Financial eyes $2b IPO

Blackstone-backed LaTrobe Financial eyes $2b IPO
Share
Booming non-bank lender and credit manager LaTrobe Financial will consider a trade sale or IPO that could value that business at more than $2 billion, as investor interest in the non-bank sector surges.
US investment giant Blackstone owns 80 per cent of LaTrobe, with the balance held by chief executive Greg O’Neill, whose family started the business in regional Victoria in 1952.
An initial public offering is a live option in the strategic review of the business, which will be run by Goldman Sachs. But LaTrobe’s large credit asset management business means it does not need capital to expand and sources said Mr O’Neill and Blackstone are open to a deal that would bring in a minority investor and partner who could help expand the business. ....

ColCap prices $1.5bn RMBS

Mortgage Business
11 February 2021
The non-bank lender has announced the pricing of its $1.5-billion RMBS, its largest issuance to date.
Columbus Capital (ColCap) has announced the pricing of its $1.5-billion prime residential mortgage-backed security (RMBS), Triton 2021-1.
The transaction is the Australian market’s first RMBS in 2021 and represents ColCap’s largest issuance to date.
The prime lender said the RMBS had attracted strong local and international demand for the transaction, including from major banks and institutional investors, leading it to close oversubscribed.
It suggested that this reflects “continued investor confidence” in the high-quality asset portfolio underpinning the Triton RMBS program. ....
