Kristie Haas, Emma s biological mother, and her husband, Brandon Haas, Emma s stepdad, were indicted early last month on charges of child abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. Kristie Haas also was indicted on abusing a corpse and reckless burning charges. On Tuesday, the Delaware Department of Justice, in conjunction with Smyrna police and the FBI, announced Kristie Haas had been re-indicted on two counts of first-degree murder by abuse or neglect. She still faces the April allegations. ....

Delaware News Journal Ashton Coleman walked out of a doctor’s appointment Tuesday morning to a text from her daughter, Keely. Something had happened at Smyrna Middle School, Keely wrote, but she didn’t know what. The school was on lockdown, and the seventh grader’s gym teacher had told the class to lock the doors and close the blinds. Immediately, Coleman assumed there had been a school shooting. This world has just gone crazy,” she said. I was in fear for her life. Though Coleman’s fears of a gunman inside the school were unfounded, there was a shooting outside the school. ....
Delaware News Journal About nine hours after a 38-year-old woman was shot dead in the parking lot of Smyrna Middle School Tuesday morning, the city police department and Delaware State Police were called to another crime scene. Shortly before 7:30 p.m., Delaware State Police emailed a notice about increased police activity on Monrovia Avenue in Smyrna. Cpl. Jason Hatchell, a spokesman for the agency, said the departments are conducting a criminal investigation in the area. Monrovia Avenue between East Commerce Street and Route 13 is closed, Hatchell said. It s not known what police are investigating, but the notice comes following a violent day in the city. ....
