Tens of thousands calling for nurseries to be closed - just like schools - in national lockdown

Tens of thousands of people are calling on the government to protect early years staff and are asking why nurseries are expected to open when schools will close.
The third national lockdown for England came into force today. But while Boris Johnson announced on Monday that schools must move most students to remote learning, he said everyone will still be able to access early years settings.
The Prime Minister is facing calls to shut nurseries as more than 40,000 people have signed a parliament.uk petition to protect early years staff.
Ailsa Monk, owner and headteacher of Cotswold Montessori Schools, revealed how a nursery manager tested positive for Covid-19, just a day after Mr Johnson’s announcement and after leading an inset day with staff. ....

Northampton nursery keen to keep 'sense of normality' for children as early years settings remain open during third lockdown

Omnipresence Nursery will remain open during the third national lockdown.
Despite frustrations around lack of support and recognition, the Omnipresence team is determined to keep a sense of normality for the children it cares for.
Dawnlouise Young, owner of the nursery, said: “We don’t mind staying open as we are passionate about keeping everything normal for the children, but we are concerned about the vulnerability of us and our staff getting the virus.
“We are not getting any help whatsoever and we are not getting any support with PPE on any level.
“Any PPE we do use, we have to buy ourselves and the cleaning that comes with Covid has quadrupled our cleaning costs. ....
