The Dravidian parties maintained their electoral dominance in the first Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections since the passing of their earlier dominant leaders, Jayalalithaa and M. Karunanidhi. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam gained 67.1% of the vote and, along with the smaller Dravidian parties, the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazagam and the Marumalarchchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, polled 70.4%. DMK candidates defeated in all 10 Assembly constituencies
Despite mounting a sustained and vociferous attack on the AIADMK’s prominent faces, the DMK has drawn a blank in the Coimbatore region. Its candidates were defeated in all 10 Assembly seats including Singanallur, the lone constituency it had won in 2016. This is the second time in a decade the party, which is set to form the next government, is facing such a debacle.

Campaigning at Jayankondam in Ariyalur on Friday, Stalin said, When I was on the way to the campaign spot this morning, I came to know that there is an I-T raid going on at my daughter s house in Chennai. There are 30 I-T officials conducting this raid after deploying about 100 police personnel.
