Duque thumbs down suggestion to drop face shields

DEPARTMENT of Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said Thursday, June 3, 2021, that it is not yet the right time to remove the protocol requiring the people to wear face shields aside from face masks in public places.
He cited the low vaccination rate, especially for the second dose, in the country.
“Okay mungkahi ni Mayor Isko kung malaki na vaccination coverage natin. Hindi pa pwedeng tanggalin ang face shield policy for now when our (second) dose vaccination coverage is a little over 2.0 percent due to still inadequate vaccine supply,” he said.
Duque cited studies showing that wearing a face shield provides another layer of protection from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), aside from face masks and physical distancing. ....

as recoveries rise, deaths remain low

ABU DHABI New COVID-19 cases in the United Arab Emirates dropped below the 2,000-mark on Thursday, with 1,989 new infections recorded over the past 24 hours.
According to the country s health ministry, three more people died from complications caused by COVID-19 over the past 24 hours.
This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 576,947 and virus-related fatalities to 1,689.
The new patients, all of whom are in a stable condition, and are receiving the necessary care, were detected after the ministry conducted 230,728 additional COVID-19 tests over the past 24 hours, using state-of-the-art medical testing equipment, according to the ministry. ....
