The National Weather Service warns North State residents will see temperatures so high this weekend, they re considered dangerous to people s and animals  health.
The NWS issued excessive heat warnings for Northern California s interior, in effect Friday afternoon through Monday night. Temperatures over the weekend are forecast to go as high as 116 degrees in the Sacramento Valley, and well above 100 degrees in the foothills. Mountain temperatures could reach 105 degrees.
Hottest temperatures arriving Saturday and Sunday could shatter daily record highs, said NWS meteorologist Scott Rowe in Sacramento. 
Redding could reach 116 degrees both days. That would beat previous records set on July 10, 2002 (115 degrees) and July 11, 1999 (114 degrees), Rowe said. ....

Animals with flat faces/short muzzles    Persian cats, pugs, boxers, shih tzus, etc. can t pant as effectively as other breeds. They and elderly or overweight animals, and those with heart or lung diseases are especially vulnerable to heat-related illnesses. 
To help protect animals:
Keep pets indoors and in air conditioning as much as possible.
Never leave a pet in a car. Even leaving them in an open vehicle for a couple of minutes can be dangerous in high heat. ....

Kylee McLaughlin says she was dropped from the team over her conservative views
A former Oklahoma University volleyball player is suing her coaches and the college after she was dropped from the team because of her conservative political views.
Kylee McLaughlin filed the lawsuit after she alleged that she was stigmatized as a racist and eventually forbidden from the rest of the team due to her views not aligning with the far-left agenda of the university.
According to The Oklahoman, McLaughlin is suing volleyball coach Lindsey Gray-Walton, as well as assistant coach Kyle Walton.
She’s expected to sue for a minimum of $75,000 for each of the five complaints, one of which is an infringement on her First Amendment rights, per the report. ....
