Milwaukee has a new Black radio station, 101.7 The Truth, launched in early January. The station features an all-talk platform that embraces Milwaukee’s Black community. The talk is challenging, with strong perspectives about what’s happening in Black neighborhoods. The young station manager, Kyle Wallace, shared his reasoning for the new format. “Black voices don’t have enough platforms. Our philosophy is that listeners shouldn’t just hear just one perspective. Our mission is to expand perspectives. The talk is raw, honest, and true as to what’s really going on in Black Milwaukee.” ....

The issue lies with a state law exempting renewable energy sources like solar panels “installed for the generation of electricity for private residential use” and whether that should cover systems that feed power onto the grid or are owned by a third party. Most solar installations involve such third-party ownership agreements, due to the steep upfront costs, according to the Connecticut Green Bank, a quasi-public agency that arranges financing for clean energy projects. ....
Melanie Ricks, both best known for their in-game host work with the Milwaukee Bucks, will co-host a three-hour morning show from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Hughes, a politically-engaged host, will take the mic from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. His long-time program, The Forum, has aired on multiple stations and most recently has been livestreamed on Facebook. Lowe, who was involved in Black Lives Matters protests and recently completed an over 700-mile march to Washington D.C. with a couple dozen other activists, will host an afternoon show from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Ken Harris, a retired Milwaukee Police Department lieutenant and current assistant dean at Concordia University, will be on an air from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Harris, who earned a Ph.D from Marian University in leadership studies, serves as the program chair for Concordia’s justice and public policy programs. ....

That band, The Go-Go’s, is considered by rock historians to be the most successful all-female band of all time and made music history for writing and performing the first and only album by an all-female band to top the charts. The Truth announces start date and lineup A community activist, a retired MPD lieutenant, a former congressional aide, and two Milwaukee Bucks in-game hosts are featured in the new radio line-up for 101.7 The Truth, the station announced Monday. The new local line-up will broadcast 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. M-F. The Truth is an audio platform that will embrace Milwaukee’s black community a marketplace where authentic conversations will challenge and inspire; incorporating raw, honest perspectives true to what is really going on in our communities. “The search for our on-air talent was not easy and every one of our hosts has a different perspective of Milwaukee,” said Cherie Harris, general manager of 101.7 The Truth. “The city is home to many creative and talented voices who have a unique story to share.” ....
