And why the electric off-road series just might be the wave of the future.
A week or so ago General Motors announced it was going to race in the new Extreme E off-road electric truck category.
The automaker said it would be doing so with its new GMC Hummer brand and that Ganassi Racing would field the entry.
Since the GMC Hummer brand is all electric, it would seem a natural fit. We wanted to know the back story.
You probably saw GM’s late-January announcement that it was planning to race in the new Extreme E off-road electric truck category with its new GMC Hummer brand. GMC Hummer is an EV brand so Extreme E seems like a no brainer. We reached out to Jim Campbell, GM’s racing boss, to get more details and find out how everything is coming together. ....

You probably caught the news that after 38 years including the last seven as Ford’s design chief designer and nice guy Moray Callum is retiring. Renault’s Anthony Lo is replacing him. Over the years Callum was responsible for designing the likes of the Mustang >P, Ford GT and Mustang Mach-E >P. Callum, whose retirement is effective May 1, started at Chrysler in 1982 and over the years designed vehicles for the PSA Group, Mazda (when it was Ford owned and where he did the third-generation MX-5 and the CX-7 crossovers), and Ghia. GMC and Chip Ganassi Racing are teaming up for the very first Extreme E season in 2021. For this electric racing venture, Chip Ganassi Racing will compete in an electric SUV inspired by the new GMC Hummer EV.
What can you expect for the Extreme E racing series?

Off-road racers Sara Price and Kyle LeDuc will drive the CGR electric SUV during the Extreme E series. This SUV has a powertrain that reaches 550 horsepower when racing as well as a distinct grille, bodywork, and graphics that take inspiration from the Hummer EV. ....
