Codi Wilkinson was allegedly killed by a group of fellow Mongrel Mob members in September 2019. An Aotearoa Mongrel Mob president allegedly bought booze and pizza for fellow gang members while a man they are accused of murdering lay dead in a garden hedge, a court has heard. The death allegedly happened because a junior mobster crossed that president, Jeremiah Sua, one time too many. The gangland and criminal justice systems came together in the High Court at Palmerston North on Thursday, the first day of the trial of five men accused of murdering Wilkinson in September 2019. Quentin Joseph Moananui, Dean Arthur Jennings, Mariota Sua, Jeremiah Sua and Jason David Signal deny the murder, kidnapping Wilkinson and his friend Kyle Rowe, wounding Rowe with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and participating in an organised criminal group. ....

SPEEDWAY: Luke Miers finally had the luck run his way to dominate the Brent Lowe Memorial Stockcar title at the Robertson Holden Speedway in Palmerston North. The sought-after title named after the hard-hitting stockcar driver who died in an accident on Christmas Eve 2015 drew a massive field of more than 50 cars, with qualifying before a one-race final on Monday. Without doubt Miers has been the stockcar class’ outstanding driver over the past season, but has often suffered from flat tyres or cars spinning out of control in front of him. But on this occasion he had everything go his way as he cruised to a relatively untroubled win in his impressive new Peter Rees car. ....

The Superstock Teams Race may have had nothing riding on the outcome on Saturday night, but they sent out a big warning that teams’ indiscretions could have a big impact on results at the Teams Champs in February. A Palmerston North Select team along with the big squad of Gisborne Giants and Wanganui Warriors raced each other once at the Robertson Holden Speedway. The overall winner was decided by the team accumulating the most points. It would have been won by Wanganui had one driver not been relegated for crossing the pole line to attack a Gisborne driver. ....
