IRVINE, Calif., May 18, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Following the January global reveal of Kia s dynamic new logo and brand relaunch, Kia Motors America is using the North American debut of its transformative electric vehicle, the EV6, to officially adopt the global Kia Plan S strategy and change its corporate name to Kia America. The new name is the most visible component of a complete brand transformation and follows Kia Motors Corporation s recent change of name to Kia Corporation.

Plan S, or Plan Shift, is Kia s ambitious $25 billion transformative strategy. Plan S includes sustainable mobility, delivery vehicles and personal transport solutions through Kia s PBV platform as well as developing Kia s Mobility as a Service strategy. Plan S will also see the launch of 11 EVs on a global basis by 2026. The first advanced-platform EV as part of Plan S will be the EV6, set to go on sale in U.S. in early 2022. ....

Kia s first battery-electric vehicle, the EV6, had its world premiere at the end of March and showed off its striking styling along with key specs like a range of up to 316 miles (WLTP cycle), and up to 576 horsepower. SEOUL (dpa-AFX) - Kia will debut its all-new 2022 EV6 electric crossover across the U.S. early next year, with the GT model arriving in late 2022.
The South Korean automaker will initially offer a maximum of 1500 units of a special EV6 First Edition by advance reservation at Kia.com starting June 3.
In the U.S., Kia plans to offer the EV6 with either a rear-wheel drive that runs on a 58.0 kWh battery at up to 167 horsepower or hp or a 77.4 kWh battery at up to 218 hp, while the performance GT model has all-wheel drive and runs on a 77.4 kWh battery at up to 576 hp. The estimated zero-to-60 mph performance will range from less than 3.5 seconds to 5.1 seconds. ....

Although we have already seen the 2022 Kia EV6 in different postures, including enjoying a quick recharge alongside its Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) sibling, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, now it’s time to find out a little about the specifics of the U.S.-spec model. It’s not that different from the global version, but it does come with a cool EV6 First Edition.

Interestingly, although probably no one will be able to mark visible changes between the global and U.S. versions, the target specification in terms of range is a bit different. That’s probably due to the different standards for testing, as the company has announced 510 km (317 miles) of range according to WLTP, while for America, it targets a more conservative figure of 300 miles (483 km). ....
