Boeing said today that its F/A-18 Super Hornet demonstrated take off from a ski-jump to strengthen its pitch for an Indian Navy tender seeking combat aircraft for its aircraft carriers.
“Our F/A-18 Super Hornet demonstrates the ability to operate from Indian Navy aircraft carriers during its successful and safe launch from a ski-jump ramp,” the U.S. plane maker said.
The demonstrations were held at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, MD. The two aircraft carriers India has – INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant (Indigenous Aircraft Carrier-I) – have Short Takeoff but Arrested Recovery (STOBAR) configuration. It is a system used for the launch and recovery of a fighter jet from the deck of an aircraft carrier. The system combines the elements of Short Take-Off and Vertical Landing (STOVL) with Catapult-Assisted Take-Off But Arrested Recovery (CATOBAR). ....

Boeing on Monday announced the successful demonstration of the compatibility of its F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jets with the Indian Navy’s aircraft carriers as part of its pitch for the Navy’s fighter procurement.

New Delhi, Dec 21 : Aerospace major Boeing has tried again to woo the Indian Navy with its carrer-borne fighter F/A-18 Super Hornet by performing a ski jump ramp, demonstrating the aircraft s suitability for Indias aircraft carriers.
The demonstrations, held at US Naval Air Station Patuxent River in Maryland, showed that the Super Hornet would do well with the Indian Navy s Short Takeoff but Arrested Recovery (STOBAR), said Boeing.

The demonstrations show the Super Hornet will do well with the Navy’s STOBAR system, Boeing said in a statement.
American aircraft giant Boeing Monday said that its F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet has successfully performed the ski-jump, making it suitable for the Indian Navy’s aircraft carrier. “F/A-18 Block III Super Hornet will offer the Indian Navy advanced warfighter technologies, superior economics and enhance naval aviation cooperation with the US Navy,” it said. ....
