Syracuse women’s lacrosse will face Loyola in NCAA quarterfinals
Updated 8:43 PM;
The Syracuse women’s lacrosse team will take on Loyola in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA tournament after the Greyhounds beat Hofstra, 11-9, in the first round on Friday.
Loyola (11-2) was the heavy favorite coming into Friday’s game after winning the Patriot League championship. But Hofstra (6-6) stayed with the Greyhounds, coming from behind twice to force a tie game with 5:30 remaining. Loyola ultimately pulled ahead and then added an empty-net goal.
With 30 seconds remaining, Loyola’s Elli Kluegel hit the ball out of Alexa Mattera’s stick and the Greyhounds held possession to run out the clock. Kluegel led the way for Loyola with four goals, and Kaitlyn Larsson made 12 saves on the other end.
