Her Heart Failed During Pregnancy. Months Later, She Gave Birth

Back in September, Vang complained about having trouble breathing and sleeping. As it turns out, she was seriously ill.
A new mother gave birth to her first child this week months after her heart failed during pregnancy.
She was pretty sick, Dr. Richard Ha, chief of cardiac surgery at Kaiser Santa Clara, said. She came from our Kaiser Sacramento program. She was brought here because she was in acute heart failure. Her heart was functioning at about 20%. Normally, people function at 65%.
Vang was given medications, which helped a bit, but her condition continued to worsen over time.
Ha said Vang had myocarditis, or inflammation of the heart, which eventually led to her heart failure. ....

When South Bay resident Arjun Batra, 74, heard California Gov. Gavin Newsom s announcement in mid-January that individuals age 65 and over were eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, he called his health care provider, Kaiser Permanente, in hopes of making an inoculation appointment.
After waiting three hours on hold, Batra said he finally spoke with a Kaiser representative who asked him a standard set of questions. ....

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Kaiser Walnut Creek is the latest facility to be cited by a state agency for COVID violations, bringing the total of Kaiser medical centers in California that have been found in violation of coronavirus protocol to 12.
The newest Cal-OSHA citations were issued Jan. 22. All four citations were serious and the fines total $45,000. The investigation was prompted by some sort of accident in June, which wasn t revealed in the report. Some of the inspections lasted until December. ....
