Who is Bananaman? Spurs’ Super League inclusion compared to ‘Man of Peel’
Beano’s Bananaman is trending on Twitter after fans compared him to Tottenham’s inclusion in the controversial European Super League.
The world of football has gone into meltdown overnight as 12 of Europe’s biggest clubs announced their intentions to form a breakaway European Super League.
Sunday’s announcement, which has been met with fierce opposition from several governing bodies, fans and pundits, would see the 12 teams – plus several invited clubs – competing in a mid-week competition to rival the Champions League without needing to qualifying on merit.
However, the inclusion of a number of teams in the proposed Super League has drawn criticism, most notably Tottenham Hotspur, whose addition to the list has been compared to the superhero Bananaman being included in the Avengers.
