150 prominent citizens demand withdrawal of HEC (Amend) Ordinance Top Story April 26, 2021 ISLAMABAD: Some 150 prominent academics and civil society leaders have written a strongly-worded open letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan demanding the withdrawal of the HEC Amendment ordinance and restoration of the HEC as an independent national regulatory body. The government had promulgated the HEC (Amendment) Ordinance 2021 on 25 March 2021, through which the tenure of the chairperson was reduced from 4 to 2 years, the current Chair Dr. Tariq Banuri was removed from his position, and HEC was placed under the Federal Ministry of Education. The signatories of the letter include senior educationists, vice chancellors, journalists, former ambassadors, generals and other government officials, parliamentarians, and human rights activists. They include such names as LUMS founder Syed Babar Ali, human rights activists Ms Hina Jilani, Harris Khalique and Karamat Ali, Counci ....
Karachi March 8, 2021 Qasim Jan, a veteran politician and Awami National Party Karachi chapter’s former president, passed away on Sunday at a hospital where he was being treated for cancer. Jan also remained Sindh president of the Pashtun Students Federation and a founding member of the United Students Federation during his student life in the 1980s. He had closely worked with Bacha Khan, Wali Khan and Sardar Sherbaz Mazari on the platform of the PkSF, the ANP and the National Democratic Party, and played an active role against the dictatorship of Ziaul Haq. In the ANP, he had served in the positions of Karachi president and provincial labour secretary. After developing differences with the ANP leadership, he had formed the Pashtun Thinkers Forum, a Karachi-based literary and political forum, and organised several events at the Arts Council of Pakistan. ....

Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, Jan 24: January 2, 2016 sensational terror attack by Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) militants at Pathankot air base in which seven security personnel were martyred and five attackers were killed in three-day long operation, appeared to have its linkages in the terror tunnel detected yesterday by the BSF in Pansar area of Hiranagar sector in Kathua district as Qasim Jan, the mastermind of Pathankot and other terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir has been spotted at Shakargarh, just opposite the tunnel.
