Amid growing protests by graduates over the class fourth job posts being reserved for 10+2 candidates only, Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta recently reviewed the project-wise potential for employment generation in Jammu and Kashmir. The government said they now plan to train 20,000 youth in market-driven skills so that they can be linked with gainful employment in various sectors. Mission Youth, they said will be providing livelihood opportunities to 50,000 youth through various systematic interventions. The Animal and Sheep Husbandry Department will take up the establishment of 1000 units each in animal (dairy) and sheep sectors, besides 500 fishery units to engage approximately 15,000 people during 2021-22. Not a day passes when the government and BJP leaders don’t talk about the large number of tourists visiting Kashmir as evidence that people in the Valley have started accepting the new political reality created by the abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019. For almost six months, all hotels, especially in Gulmarg and Pahalgam, had been closed due to the military siege and communication blockade that accompanied the abrogation. In 2020, after the government lifted restrictions on travel to the Valley despite the Covid lockdown, 41,267 tourists, including 3,897 foreigners, visited Kashmir the lowest number since 1990. New Delhi, April 12: While inaugurating the first Water Sports Centre adopted by his Ministry in Kashmir last week, Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju announced that the Government of India was developing as many as 100 Khelo India Centres across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
