ANGOLA â Angolaâs Historic Preservation Commission has finalized plans for its spring historic architecture tour. The Commission is calling this yearâs excursion the Women, Business and Architecture Tour. It will take place Friday, May 7, which is also the start of Trine Universityâs spring graduation weekend. It also culminates the end of the Womenâs Week celebration that being promoted by the Downtown Angola Coalition, the cityâs Mainstreet organization. The tour will begin in front of the Steuben County Courthouse at 7 p.m. that Friday and last approximately 45 minutes, ending at Caleo Cafe, 113 W. Maumee St., which will be staying open late to allow tourgoers a chance to enjoy refreshments and mingle with HPC board members. ....

ANGOLA â You can celebrate National Poetry month all April long with various events and activities scheduled to take place in and around Angola. Now in its 25th year, National Poetry Month was introduced in 1996 by the American Academy of Poets to increase awareness and appreciation of poetry throughout the United States. In years past, celebrations in Angola have included a daily poetry reading on the Public Square in front of the Brokaw Movie House with storyteller, Trine University professor and columnist for this newspaper Lou Ann Homan. This year, however, Homan said sheâs approaching poetry month another way. âI am doing poetry month a little differently, but fun,â she said. ....
ANGOLA â Seven more Angola businesses adversely impacted by COVID-19 were awarded forgivable loans on Thursday, bringing the total number of local businesses that have received financial assistance in 2020 and 2021 to 16. Everage Auto, Just Breathe Salt Room & More, Caleo Cafe, Mitchellâs Fine Menâs Clothing, The Hatchery Restaurant, Angola Sports Center and M.B.C. Distributing all received loans from the Angola Investment Fund (AIF) during the recently concluded third round of funding. The amount of each loan ranged from $5,000 to $10,000 and was determined by the adverse impact COVID-19 had on each business. The funding was made possible through the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, which awarded Angola $250,000 for the program. The city, through the AIF, chipped in $100,000 to increase the total amount available for forgivable loans to $350,000. ....
