Galesburg-Augusta Schools asking for recount after narrow loss for proposal in election By Brandon James May 6, 2021 7:22 AM GALESBURG, MI (WKZO AM/FM) A recount will be requested following razor-thin election results to a local school bond proposal in Tuesday’s election. Voters in the Galesburg-Augusta School District voted down a $15 million dollar school improvement bond by only two votes, with 803 in favor and 805 opposed. The district can’t take action until the results are certified, which is expected to happen Thursday. But Superintendent Wendy Maynard-Somers, who says the funding is desperately needed, has already been in contact with the Kalamazoo County Clerk and the District Attorney to ask for a recount. ....

Galesburg-Augusta $15M school improvement bond fails by 2 votes Updated May 05, 2021; Facebook Share GALESBURG-AUGUSTA, MI Voters in Galesburg-Augusta rejected the school district’s $14.99 million bond proposal for school improvements on Tuesday, May 4. The proposal failed by two votes, with 803 votes cast in favor of the measure and 805 opposed, according to the complete unofficial results from the Kalamazoo County Clerk’s Office. The bond would have funded an addition to the elementary school and other facility improvements, according to Galesburg-Augusta’s 2021 bond proposal website. The proposed 1.5-mill tax would have cost the average taxpayer with a home valued at $150,000 an additional $112.50 annually, or $9.38 per month, the school district said. ....
