A 32-year-old Terrebonne Parish man was convicted Thursday evening of multiple felony charges resulting from a 2019 police chase.
Jacob Fay Luke Sr., of Gray, was convicted of aggravated flight from an officer with human endangerment, resisting an officer by force or violence, attempted battery of a police officer and attempted possession of methamphetamine.
Luke’s conviction resulted from an incident that occurred during the early morning hours April 11, 2019, in the Mobile Estates area of Gray. A State Police trooper tried to initiate a traffic stop on a car Luke was driving, but the defendant refused to pull over, prosecutors said.
Suspect indicted on murder charge in Houma man s shooting death
A man accused of fatally shooting a Houma resident earlier this year has been indicted on a murder charge.
A Terrebonne Parish grand jury found enough evidence last week to charge 23-year-old Sherman Ruffin with second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
He is accused of killing Martin Jones, 26, during the early morning on Jan. 24 in Houma.
An indictment does not presume guilt or innocence but indicates the grand jury found prosecutors presented enough evidence to warrant a trial on the charges.
The shooting occurred 1:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Plant Road. Jones died at a local hospital from multiple gunshot wounds, police said.
