Tecumseh waste contract makes the use of 96-gallon totes optional

TECUMSEH The Tecumseh City Council unanimously approved a contract with Stevens Disposal & Recycling Service Monday after a compromise to make use of the 96-gallon totes optional.
The trash contract eliminates the 96-gallon totes for recycling and gives each homeowner the option of getting the 96-gallon tote for trash. Trash bags will continue to be picked up from the curb. The 18-gallon recycling bins will continue to be picked up once a week.
The charge per unit for the carts has gone down from the original price of $1.90 per unit to 50 cents per unit, per month. The city will have to order the carts in bulk, with a bulk load constituting 702 carts at a cost of $351.00 per month. ....

Cpl. William H. Crittenden honored for capture of Jefferson Davis

MACON TWP. The 112th annual Memorial Day service at Macon Cemetery on Sunday, honored the service of the fallen as well as Cpl. William H. Crittenden, one of the soldiers responsible for capturing Jefferson Davis during the Civil War.
Crittenden, also known as “Tip,” belonged to Company E of the 4th Michigan Cavalry, which departed for war in 1862. He originally was from the Macon and Tecumseh areaand is buried at Macon Cemetery.
Bob Elliot, a local historian, was a guest speaker at the ceremony and told attendees a little about Crittenden. He was married to Rosetta, and they had five children. He was only 24 years old when he was called to fight. He died on Nov. 29, 1924, as the last soldier still alive who captured Davis. ....
