SCITUATE – Residents will pay $15 per hour to the town for public records requests and research beyond the first hour of free research following the Town Council’s approval of ordinance changes proposed by Public Records Officer Marissa Marmaras. Marmaras said requests under the Access to Public Records Act have increased over the past several months, becoming “both time consuming and burdensome” for herself and other departments where she gathers pertinent information. The approved changes will mean charges of $15 per hour for research for an APRA request, while the first hour is free for the person requesting once every 30 days. In addition, should requested documents be voluminous, or more than 100 pages, the records officer may charge 15 cents per page. ....

Scituate is in the lower tier for its COVID-19 test-positive rate, at 9 percent, with 443 residents testing positive of 5,171 residents tested. Those tested this year represent 49 percent of the population of 10,603. ....

Councilor Tim McCormick, who is a council liaison to the Providence Water Supply Board, last week introduced an agenda item requesting that the town pay half, or $1,300, to replace the destroyed gate on Hemlock Road. ....
