Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], January 20 (ANI): Amidst the COVID-19pandemic, 15 Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) under the Kerala Industries Department had registered a profit with a consolidated turnover of Rs 3,149 crore during the 2019-20 financial year.
As per a statement from the Industries Department, the Kalavoor based Kerala State Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Limited (KSDP) is at the forefront, which opted for business diversification and focused on the manufacture of sanitisers during the first phase of Covid outbreak in the State.
KSDP achieved a record profit of Rs 7.13 crore in 2019-20 with a turnover of Rs 100 crore. ....

ASHA workers allowance would be hiked by ₹1,000 in recognition of their role in COVID-19 management, Finance Minister said.
Kerala Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac began the presentation of the Budget claiming Kerala had scripted a success story in the management of COVID-19.
He outlined the different measures launched by the Health department to control the pandemic and the steps taken to provide relief to those affected by the lockdown. ....

Kerala government panel to suggest PPP model to set up COVID-19 vaccine production units

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The five-member committee formed by the government to explore the possibility of developing a vaccine against COVID-19 has concluded that it is impractical at this stage.
However, it will recommend to set up vaccine manufacturing units on public-private partnership (PPP) model with the manufactures of the vaccine candidates that are in trial phase. On November 16, the state constituted a five-member committee to explore possibilities of collaborations for vaccine production and having a vaccine development unit, including protein-based biologicals like enzymes and cancer drugs.
There are some practical difficulties. The vaccine is the need of the hour. For developing it, painstaking research efforts, resources and funds are required. Most importantly, it will take time, said a member of the committee. ....
