Sheikh Mohammed's book on UAE's rise now adorns Kerala literary academy's collection

Dubai: ‘My Story’, the book written by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which narrates the rise of the UAE and Dubai on the global stage, will now adorn the collections of the Kerala Sahitya (Literary) Academy.
The book, subtitled ‘50 Years of Achievement’, had a virtual release in Kerala with State Revenue Minister K. Rajan presenting a copy to Kerala Sahitya Academy president and renowned Malayalam writer Vaisakhan at a function held at the Sahitya Academy hall.
The book was gifted to the academy by Team Tolerance, a collective of young men from Kerala who have made the UAE their second home. Team Tolerance decided to make this gesture to mark the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid’s 72nd birthday, which was celebrated on July 15. Eminent author of children’s literature Sumangala died at her residence at Wadakkanchery on Tuesday after a brief illness. She was 88.
Born Leela Namboodiripad and known to her readers as Sumangala, the veteran writer has written over 40 titles, 23 of them for children. She had won the Kendra Sahitya Academy Award for children’s literature in 2013.
Recreation of Panchatanthra stories is her most celebrated work, which has gone over more than two dozen editions. ....

Well-known writer UA Khader, whose novels and stories over the last five decades in Malayalam are considered among the finest published works in the language, passed away at a private hospital in Kozhikode at the age of 85. He had been suffering from respiratory ailments for a long time.
Khader, whose father was Malayali and mother of Burmese origin, was born near Rangoon (now Yangon) in present-day Myanmar. During the Second World War, he and his family fled Myanmar and came to Kerala where he had his school and college education. It was believed to be his companionship with prominent IUML leader CH Muhammad Koya, who went on to become the state’s chief minister, that led Khader into the world of books and writing. ....
