It started with a call on social media to “back the blue” in the summer of 2020, urging Utahns to stand together in support of police to intimidate potentially violent protesters and deter them from looting and pillaging. Soon 20,000 members online were cheering on Utah Citizens Alarm, a group referred to as a militia by local police, which a year later continues to evolve and thrive.

SALT LAKE CITY After exchanging gunfire with police Tuesday, a person barricaded inside a Salt Lake home was found dead, Salt Lake police said.
Officers were able to enter into the home and discovered the individual deceased on Tuesday evening, according to Salt Lake Police Sgt. Keith Horrocks. Police have not released any details about the person s gender, age or identity.
An investigation into the officer-involved critical incident has been opened up and is being investigated by an outside agency, but Horrocks didn t say whether the person died from gunshot wounds.
Police first got a call concerning a suicidal person near 1660 West and 800 North about 11:30 a.m., Horrocks said.
