While I commend Mayor Jim Watson for lobbying the province to let local businesses open under the same rules as big-box stores, the second part of his proposal is greatly flawed.
The mayor says that if the province does not agree to let businesses re-open under these terms, then it should ban big-box stores from selling “non- essential items” such as TVs. Well, if the Doug Ford government does that, it will only drive people to buy more of these “non-essential items” online, from big American retailers such as Amazon, further damaging our own economy and local business. ....
