Heading into Monday, the only outstanding question about the $893.5 million allotment was whether the commissioners would go with a 5% raise for Sheriff’s Office employees planned by Mayor Glenn Jacobs or the 8% raise proposed by Sheriff Tom Spangler for employees with the rank of captain and below. Other county employees (excluding Knox County School System employees, who could get a raise under the district s budget) got a 3% raise. ....

This year especially, as campus has been quiet and many families have had to cope with the consequences of an unmitigated pandemic in the United States, the Beaufort County Community College community has joined together to collect funds and supplies to make the holidays brighter for all of our community members. Student and employees collected donations for Toys for Tots, the Salvation Army and the Beaufort County Humane Society; hosted an Angel Tree; and donated to Adopt a Senior. First-year ADN students came together to help the Humane Society of Beaufort County by gathering pet food and toys.
