INDEPENDENCE For Ste. Genevieve High School 126-pound senior Dalton McNeal, this marked the end of a glorious road.
Meanwhile, the journey is only beginning for Dragon 106-pound freshman Gage Gross.
Both Gross and McNeal earned fourth-place medals at the Missouri State High School Activities Association Class 2 Tournament on Thursday, March 11, at Cable Dahmer Arena.
McNeal produced a stellar record of 36-7 during the 2020-21 campaign, and he finished his scholastic career with a 133-45 mark.
“I am very proud of how Dalton ended his season,” Ste. Genevieve head coach Jared Bonnell said. “I only wished he could have ended it the way he wanted, as a state champion. I know he gave everything he had.”

It took Keith Ransom 62 seconds to become a district champion. And the Mexico 126-pounder didn’t really need that much of the clock.
The top seed in his weight at Saturday’s Class 2 District 4 tournament at The Sports Complex in Mexico, Ransom received a bye into the title round. He quickly scored takedown points against Fulton’s Kaden Barnes, and then added more to go up 6-0. Only then did he turn his attention to pinning his opponent.

Keegan Koons and Gavyn Martin were undone in the first two matches of Mexico’s home quadrangular on Friday. Koons couldn’t escape Palmyra’s Kaden Crane and Martin contorted, but could not gain control over Collin Arch.
And when it came to the 138 pound match, Dylan Mosley wasn’t happy.
“I wasn’t ready and it showed,” he said.
Here’s the twist: he won.
“I should have had him pinned in the first minute,” Mosley explained.
Instead, Mosley worked a few seconds into the second before claiming a win by fall over Grayson Stevens, helping the Bulldogs to a 42-36 team win over Palmyra to open the quad. Mexico would go on to knock off Brookfield and Kirksville to sweep at home.

The Trojan Duels in Carrollton is a frenetic event – five teams pitted against each other in rotation, and it is a strong field.
Mexico emerged from the fray 3-2 as a team, dropping a tight 41-36 match to the hosts and struggling against Chillicothe but taking the upper hand over Hallsville, Penney and North Kansas City.
Things started well for the Bulldogs against the Trojans. Gavyn Martin captured the 126 match by fall at 1:40. After two wins by forfeit and losses at 145 and 152, Terrell Williams took the 160 contest by fall at 5:59 and Jokiah Sewell followed at 182, dropping Carrollton’s Noah Frank at the 5:40 mark. But it was all Carrollton from there.
