Indiana immigrant advocates and faith leaders on Tuesday asked Marion County Sheriff Kerry Forestal to stop holding immigrants at the county jail without a warrant at the request of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Forestal said he will work with advocates in Indianapolis but will continue to uphold state law, which prohibits limiting or restricting the enforcement of federal immigration laws. 
So although that s not a popular position, I will continue to recognize the ICE detainers, Forestal said. I would support any law that was passed (that) did not require the sheriffs of Indiana to forcibly detain people unless they had a criminal charge attached. ....

An Indianapolis City-County councilwoman is calling on Gov. Eric Holcomb and state lawmakers to address gun violence before they leave the Statehouse next week after eight people were killed during a mass shooting at the FedEx Ground Plainfield Operations Center. 
Indianapolis City-County Councillor Ali Brown, a Democrat, released a statement Friday morning encouraging legislative leaders and Holcomb to take proactive action to prevent more mass shootings.

City-County Council OKs 20% limit on third-party food-delivery fees

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) Indianapolis City-County Council on Monday night approved a measure to limit fees from third-party food-delivery services while Marion County limits restaurant capacities.
Proposal 106 will limit fees to no more than 20% of a meal’s price. A news release from the city said the limit is in line with caps other U.S. cities have imposed.
The measure also prohibits third-party delivery service companies from attempting to make up lost fees by passing costs on to drivers or customers.
More people have been using third-party delivery services because of COVID- 19 restrictions. At times during the pandemic, many businesses have found themselves depending on GrubHub, DoorDash, Uber Eats and similar companies. ....
