DAYTONA BEACH The increased push by retailers to provide online shoppers with same- or next-day delivery is creating a need for more distribution centers within a short drive to large numbers of customers. That could transform Volusia County into a major distribution hub in the coming years, predicts commercial real estate broker David Murphy, an executive vice president with CBRE, a commercial real estate services and investment firm in Orlando. They re coming, Murphy told a recent gathering of the Volusia County Association for Responsible Development, also known as VCARD. DAYTONA BEACH The COVID-19 pandemic has forced Daytona International Speedway like all businesses to make major adjustments last year. Many of those changes are carrying over into this year as Speedweeks begin this week. Last year s adjustments included significantly reducing attendance at races, canceling a big music festival the Speedway was set to host, and requiring staff and fans to wear face masks as well as follow coronavirus safety protocols. Through it all, the Speedway managed to find ways to keep people employed and to host events benefiting the Daytona area.
