COVID-19 vaccines in Ottawa: More doses arrive as city prepares for expanded rollout

OTTAWA
With the city preparing for bookings to open to all adults on Tuesday, Ottawa Public Health says administration of Pfizer vaccines to Ottawa residents is at its highest level so far during the pandemic.
According to OPH s COVID-19 vaccination dashboard, 49,176 doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered to Ottawans last week, marking a slight increase over 48,983 shots administered the week prior.
The number of shots being delivered into arms in the capital is down from a peak of more than 60,000 in mid-April, largely because of a significant decline in the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine. The province put a pause on AstraZeneca for first doses early last week, amid fears of rising rates of rare and dangerous blood clots. Health officials said the clots were still exceedingly rare, with eight reported province-wide, but the rate at which they were reported was higher than initially believed.  ....

City asking residents not to visit pop-up vaccine clinics if not from neighbourhood

OTTAWA
The head of Ottawa s local vaccination rollout is asking residents who do not live in neighbourhoods that are being specifically targeted by pop-up vaccination clinics to avoid traveling to those clinics to get a vaccine.
Emergency and protective services general manager Anthony Di Monte told reporters that about 200 people were turned away from a clinic at the Howard Darwin Centennial Arena Wednesday morning because they didn t live in the two priority neighbourhoods the drop-in clinic was meant for.
There’s a pop-up vaccination clinic tomorrow at the Howard Darwin Arena that is only for residents of Parkwood Hills & Stewart Farm who are 18+. Please help us reach priority neighbourhoods by leaving the limited spots for these #OttCity residents! pic.twitter.com/MLIWudIEU9 ....

Pause in AstraZeneca won't slow vaccination progress, but leaves questions

Article content
A day after the province suspended first doses of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine because of safety concerns, there was mounting frustration Wednesday, and few answers, about what comes next for thousands of Ontario residents who have received doses of the vaccine.
Ottawa Board of Health chair Coun. Keith Egli, who is one of the 850,000 Ontario residents vaccinated with AstraZeneca, expressed some of that frustration during a media briefing with city officials.
