An 11-year-old Taranaki boy who managed to catch a marlin more than twice his weight in a local fishing competition plans to spend his winnings on a new motorbike. Harlan Goodin landed a record-breaking 109.8kg striped Marlin off the coast of Cape Egmont Boat Club. He was fishing in the game fishing competition with his dad Brett, his uncle Gareth Goodin and granddad Bryan Goodin on February 22 when he caught the big fish. Harlan almost gave up, as the fish kept fighting, but he was motivated to get the $1000 first place prize to put towards a new motorbike, his granddad said. ....
