In a renewed focus on the east side of the county s third most visited park, Zion National Park s charity Zion Forever has received $500,000 in state grant for nearly 25 miles of bike trails. With 10 miles of trails already underway, the 34.5 miles of trails will connect to the new East Zion Visitor Center with construction to begin within the next month and be completed in 2022. This grant from the state I think reflects the validation of the vision around the east side initiative, Zion Forever Director Mark Preiss said. Of the $7.6 million awarded this year through the Utah Office of Outdoor Recreation and the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity, about $1.4 million is headed to other southern Utah projects like trail improvements, outdoor classrooms and a new ice skating ribbon in Bryce Canyon City. ....

Would you pay more to camp in Capitol Reef National Park? The park in south-central Utah is seeking public comment about a camping fee increase starting next year, a Monday press release said. For the Fruita Campground, with 71 campsites, the nightly rate would increase from $20 to $25. If you have a lifetime pass, it would increase from $10 to $12.50. And for the Group Campsite, with a 40 person capacity, fares would increase $100 to $125. The proposed fee increase would bring the park in line with other parks that provide similar services and experiences, the press release said. According to the park, 100% of fares are used for visitor services, repairs, maintenance, improvements and resource protection. Other fees collected covered tree planting, water stations, installing exhibits and signage, and making improvements to the Fruita Campground. ....
TORREY, Wayne County Capitol Reef National Park officials are seeking approval for a plan that would raise the cost of nightly fees at its Fruita and group campground sites. The plan, which was announced Monday, would raise the nightly campsite rates at the Fruita campground by as much as $5, while the nightly group campsite rate would be raised by $25. The current rates are $10 per night for Fruita campground with a lifetime pass, $20 for the Fruita campground without a pass and $100 for the group campsite. If approved, the new rates would be $12.50, $25 and $125, respectively. All other fees at the park would not change. The new rates wouldn t go into effect until the start of 2022, if finalized. The park last raised camping fees in 2015, which is when the nightly fee at the Fruita campground jumped from $10 to $20. ....
