Barbara Lee Pittner was born December 7, 1934 in Willard, Ohio, the second daughter of Raphael and Leo Mager. She is survived by her sister Sally O’Neill, and 2 sons Greg Pittner and David (Erin) Pittner. She was preceded in death by her husband Donald and her daughter Sarah “Sallie” Giese.
Barbara was adored by her grandchildren Cara (Christopher) Springer, John Giese Jr., Brittany Jones, Joseph Pittner, and Emma and Elise Pittner. She also had 6 great- grandchildren Zakery, Lilly, Sophie, Clark, Liana, Isabella, and Baby Blake due May 2021.
Barbara was a positive light to everyone who knew her. She was a nurse for 41 years at Wheeling Hospital and took care of people young and old after she retired. She was also a skilled seamstress and sought out by the community to mend, hem, and fix their garments. Additionally, Barbara was crafty and wrote beautiful poems. WHEELING Fans of country music from its early days at The Jamboree in Wheeling, are sure to delight in the newest publication that includes photos of the many long-ago forgotten performers who once graced the stage at the Capitol Music Hall and Expo Hall on Wheeling Island.
The book is titled “The Jamboree in Wheeling,” and is the third music publication by authors Ivan M. Tribe and Jacob L. Bapst.
After publishing two previous books – “Mountaineers Jamboree: Country Music in West Virginia” in 1984, and “West Virginia’s Traditional Country Music” in 2015, the authors felt Wheeling’s Jamboree rated its own book. All of the books are published by Arcadia Publishing as part of its “Images of America” series. ....

WHEELING Despite all the challenges the COVID-19 pandemic presented this year, officials in the city of Wheeling were counting their blessings as 2020 comes to a close, with great optimism for the future.
City leaders this past week highlighted the many accomplishments and the continued progress made with projects throughout Wheeling in the face of the pandemic. With a new regime of city council finishing its first six months in office, the Friendly City is ready to close the chapter on this unprecedented year and kick off 2021 by hitting the ground running. ....
