WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. (WKBW) â The name of a renowned artist lives on in Williamsville.
The art gallery at Canterbury Woods is named after Norine Spurling.
Spurling specialized in watercolors during her career.
She lived at Canterbury Woods for three years until she died in December.
âArt was the central part of who she was as a person,â Kay Spurling said of her mother. âThat she will be remembered in this way reflects her life-long love of art.â
Works of art from various artists who live at the home will be featured in the gallery. ....

A National Guardsman, who also happens to be a music teacher, is taking multitasking to a whole new level. Not only is he protecting the nation’s capital during an uncertain time, he’s also been teaching virtual music classes between shifts.
And he’s doing it from the back of a Humvee.
Canterbury Woods Elementary School in Fairfax County, Virginia, proclaimed their music teacher, Sgt. Jacob Kohut, “a hero” on Facebook. “[O]ur band teacher Dr. Jake Kohut has been working around the clock since Wednesday,” school staff captioned. While the students are in Virginia, Sgt. Kohut teaches from the Washington D.C. Armory. ....

Sgt. Jacob Kohut, 34, has been a band teacher for more than 10 years, and has spent the past five enriching the lives of students at both Canterbury Woods and Frost Middle School in Fairfax County, Virginia, the
reported.
On top of being a band teacher, he is a National Guardsman who s taken his lessons to Zoom while being deployed.
Since arriving in D.C., Kohut has been giving his elementary school lessons on the drill floor of the D.C. Armory in the mornings before his 12-hour Guard shift, then teaching his middle schoolers from the back of a Humvee while on break, according to the post. ....

District of Columbia National Guard Sgt. Jacob Kohut was on his only break during a 12-hour shift standing guard outside the U.S. Capitol. In the back of a Humvee, flute in hand, Kohut was teaching students how to play Ludwig van Beethoven s Ode to Joy through his laptop.
Kohut, 34, is one of the more than 20,000 National Guard troops providing security as part of a massive operation in D.C. before President-elect Joe Biden s inauguration.
Since his deployment to Washington on Jan. 13, Kohut has been on double duty, as an active member of the National Guard and a dedicated band teacher at public schools in Fairfax County, Va. ....
