MADISON, Wis. A $100 million student apartment proposal for downtown Madison would force out ten businesses from the area.
Core Spaces, who oversaw the construction of downtown student high rise buildings such as The James and The Hub, is behind the plan.
“I was approached by the existing property owner of most of the parcels at some point last summer,” said District 4 Alder Mike Verveer. “I certainly thought immediately that it was an ambitious plan, considering the scale of it, considering the prime downtown location involved.”
ST. JOHNSBURY â Erika Pierce, a St. Johnsbury woman who runs a small business selling makeup and skincare products, has been so moved by hearing about the isolation of people in care homes during the pandemic that she set out to spread some cheer this Christmas season.
On Tuesday, Dec. 23, the 33-year-old set out with her sleigh full of goodies to share Christmas joy and spirit with the residents who live at the Canterbury Inn in downtown St. Johnsbury.
Pierce explained, âI have a small business selling makeup and skincare. I donated 35 bags of hand lotion, lip balms and warm socks to the 30 residents at the Canterbury Inn, plus five bags for the full-time nursing staff.â

Johan was a stone mason and also had a small farm near Frederick. Bruce’s father, Benjamin Buehler was born in 1887 in Dorrance, KS and attended Enterprise School (German American Academy) in Enterprise, KS.
His mother was Helen Nelson Skiles who was born in Pittsburg PA in 1891. Her parents, William Cutten and Olive Wilson Skiles, moved to KS for health reasons and homesteaded near Frederick, so Helen grew up on a small farm and later attended Mt. Allison College in Sackville, New Brunswick, Canada.
