Alabaré mascot Roofus is getting ready for the Big Sleep at Home on March 5 WELL-KNOWN names from the television, literary and military world are joining Salisbury-based charity Alabaré and its supporters on Friday (March 5) for the Big Sleep at Home. The event will see at least two hundred people give up the comfort of their own bed for one night to help raise vital funds to help those who have faced the crisis of losing their home. Big Sleepers will be able to join a packed evening of music, interviews and activities online whilst supporting the cause. The 34-year-old was late last year named in the Blues’ squad for the 2021 Super Rugby Aotearoa campaign, but has made the call to retire after receiving medical advice. “Firstly, I want to thank NZ Rugby, the Blues, North Harbour rugby and Takapuna club for the opportunities they’ve afforded me,” the two-test All Black said in a statement. “For me, it’s not about sadness, it’s about celebration. Six previously homeless veterans have completed a self-build scheme of 19 affordable dwellings in Leominster, Herefordshire, and will be enjoying Christmas in their new homes. Each veteran has secured a new house for themselves and their families through a partnership between the charity, Alabaré, Hereford Council and Stonewater, a housing association. The remaining houses will be used by the local authority. ....
