IN response to your article (Echo, June 7) on Marc Scott’s 10,000 metre success in Birmingham at the weekend it is worth putting some more meat on the bones of this performance. Marc was a member of Richmond and Zetland Harriers (RZH) as a junior athlete and was nurtured by both the club and his long-time coach, Ken Harker. Ken, himself an accomplished athlete, was careful never to over extend Marc as a junior and it was this care and lack of injury that allowed him to develop as a senior when he moved to the US. The English athletics club structure is unique around the world and RZH and Ken should be proud of the work they did with Marc to help him achieve his goals and become the successful athlete he has. ....
JUST as training and time trial type races were gathering momentum for members of Richmond and Zetland Harriers, the second lockdown brought another abrupt halt to matters. During the lockdown, club members paid tribute to Dan Upton, who died suddenly at home aged 45. He will be remembered as an athlete who would have a go at any event and will be thoroughly missed at the competitions he took part in throughout the country. Dan was a former decathlete who competed for the Harriers as a junior then re-joined the club again two years ago to concentrate on trying to throw things, to varying degrees of success (in his own words). ....
The Italian connection Little Italy, in Smithfield, Dublin, was founded over 40 years ago by Sylvester Rabbitte and Anna Senezio, who met in O Connell Street s famous Pillar Ice Cream Parlour - then owned by Anna s parents. They are no longer with us, but it is still a family business run by their daughters, Bettina and Marisa. Due to the pandemic, our business changed overnight, with our wholesale business decimated by the restaurant closures, Bettina told me. We had to diversify and invest in our website to make it more user-friendly as we had a lot of demand for our products. With people at home, it was great to see them cooking from scratch and tagging us in their creations. ....
