ISLAMABAD: Amid intensified efforts by Pakistan to get the work restarted on the Dasu hydropower project, Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Chairman retired Lt Gen Muzammil Hussain called on Chinese Ambassador Nong Rong here on Friday and discussed the matters relating to construction of the dam.
“The matters relating to construction of Dasu hydropower project in the context of July 14 incident were discussed in detail,” said an official announcement released after the meeting held on the day Pakistan sent the bodies of nine engineers to China and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi arrived in Beijing on the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan. ....

MANSEHRA: Thirteen people, including nine Chinese nationals, two personnel of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) and two locals, were killed and 28 others sustained injuries when a coach carrying them to an under-construction tunnel site of the 4,300-megawatt Dasu hydropower project fell into a ravine in the Upper Kohistan area after an explosion on Wednesday. ....

9 Chinese among 13 killed as coach plunges into ravine

MANSEHRA: As many as 13 people, including nine Chinese and two Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel, were killed and 41 others injured when a coach plunged into a ravine after an explosion in Upper Kohistan on Wednesday.
The vehicle, which was damaged after the blast, was taking Chinese workers and engineers to the 4300 megawatt under-construction Dasu Hydropower Project. The explosion took place in Barseen area on the Karakoram Highway. The driver and cleaner of the coach, which fell into the Indus River following the blast, were also killed in the incident. A convoy of vehicles was on the way to the Dasu dam site after receiving Chinese labourers in the morning from Barseen camp which is situated at a distance of around eight kilometres to north of Dasu, the district headquarters of Upper Kohistan, through Karakoram Highway when the blast occurred. ....

K-IV water project: Wapda awards Rs1.1b contract for consultancy services

ISLAMABAD: The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) on Thursday awarded the contract worth Rs1.14 billion for unified consultancy services for Greater Karachi Water Supply Scheme (K-IV) to a Joint Venture (JV) through an international competitive bidding.
To this effect, the award signing ceremony between Wapda and the JV for the project was held here. The JV comprises of an Austrian and two Pakistani firms. The agreement consists of design review, detailed engineering design for conveyance system, allied electro-mechanical works, power, coordination for distribution system, preparation of bidding documents and the PC-I.
Besides, agreement was signed by K-IV project management and representative of the JV. ....
