Mike Howarth thinks Geffrye s statue should stay. He said on Facebook: You can t hide history away but everyone can learn from it if it s there to see.
But Matt Saze commented that other controversial statues have been removed after revelations of crime were revealed: I don’t see the Jimmy Saville memorials still up in Stoke Mandeville. Time to take it down.

Pubs, restaurants and even Kenwood House are all looking forward to reopening indoors on Monday.
Some, like the Magdala in Hampstead, will be back for the first time in the best part of a decade, and though others like the much-loved Paradise Indian restaurant in South End Green have been open more recently, managers are looking forward to the return of a slice of normality.
Other pubs reopening include the Flask in Hampstead, and although places like the Gatehouse and the Prince of Wales in Highgate have had an outdoor offering, getting people back actually through the doors is very much a welcome step forward. ....

Newham has suffered terrible tragedies in the past few weeks.
As a community, we have witnessed the devastating killing of two young people, and I know how deeply this has affected the grieving families who I have met and it pains me that they have had to go through this.
This is my community where I have grown up, and I want the senseless violence that is harming our young people to stop. I want all our residents to know that we are working with our local police to make sure they are visible in our neighbourhoods and that they are doing all they can to make Newham safe. ....

Bereaved son urges BHRUT to take better Covid precautions

The son of a Rainham woman who died of Covid-19 has called on an NHS trust to take better precautions after it admitted that she was likely to have contracted the virus in hospital.
Martin Pearson complained to Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) about its treatment of his mother Iris, 79, who died at Queen s Hospital in March.
Iris death certificate shows she died of Covid-19, with heart failure as a contributory factor.
In a response to Martin s complaint, the trust s chief executive Tony Chambers said: It is likely although not definite that Mrs Pearson could have developed Covid-19 whilst in hospital. ....
