There are 94 active fires in the region. Thirty-two fires are not under control, seven fires are being held, 25 fires are under control and 30 fires are being observed. Hard work from Initial Attack FireRangers saw a total of 11 fires called out today. The forest fire hazard is high to extreme across the district and the Restricted Fire Zone remains in place. SASKATOON Over a dozen First Nations bands in central Saskatchewan will receive mental and physical health assistance through a downloadable app. “First Nations communities are historically and disproportionately affected by trauma, depression, suicide and substance use, and our families are no longer prepared to wait,” said Big River First Nation Chief Jack Rayne. TryCycle is designed for people in treatment or awaiting treatment for substance use or mental health disorders. The app encourages users to check-in and connect with their health team. Proposed toll booth on Keeley Lake not advised: Ministry of Environment The Ministry of Environment is warning the Canoe Lake Cree Nation about erecting a toll booth for public access to Keeley Lake. A fee is being proposed for anglers as there is a dispute about over harvesting on the Lake with the Canoe Lake Fisherman’s Cooperative. “The Ministry recognizes the importance of the commercial fishery to the fishers of the Canoe Lake Cree First Nation, however the continued failure of the cooperative to control harvest and remain within the annual quota is putting the sustainability of Keeley Lake at risk,” said Environment Minister Warren Kaeding in letter to the First Nation. ....
