Franklin BOMA backs off proposal that would ban some Contributor sales

Franklin city leaders have backed off a proposal that would ve changed the way street vendors do business near restaurants, a move that if approved would ve forced vendors of The Contributor away from outdoor cafés. 
The ordinance proposal was sparked after a complaint from Franklin Bakehouse. Owner Tom Muir attended the Board of Mayor and Aldermen work session Tuesday night, where he said the issue had been resolved. Alderman Dana McLendon, who proposed the ordinance, moved to withdraw it due to the amicable resolution. 
“We’re very appreciative of our relationship with The Contributor at the Bakehouse, Muir said. We’ve come to a good resolution with both sides, and we very much look forward to a continued relationship with The Contributor.”  ....

Hamilton County Schools First In State To Pass Model Water Access Policy

Hamilton County Board of Education unanimously voted to approve improved Water Access policy for students last month. The addendum will be added to the existing student wellness policy, which includes that all newly constructed or majorly renovated schools will have water bottle refilling stations installed.
This commitment is part of the American Heart Association’s priorities to make schools students healthier and safer. The organization aims to pass similar water bottle refilling stations policy statewide.
Hamilton County is the first school district in the state of Tennessee and only second in the southeastern region of the U.S. to pass this policy. ....

A Nashville councilman is scrapping legislation that would have outlawed the main way the homeless sell The Contributor.
City leaders are considering an ordinance that would change how street vendors do business a move that if approved could harm some of the city s most vulnerable residents. 
The proposal, which comes amid complaints about vendors selling newspapers in Franklin s downtown district, would ban street vendors from selling within 50 feet of certain restaurants. 
Assistant City Administrator Vernon Gerth said during a Board of Mayor and Aldermen work session meeting on April 27 that some residents were concerned about people selling newspapers on sidewalks near outdoor cafes. Alderman Dana McLendon also asked Gerth to look into the possibility of creating an ordinance, but ....
