Lipstick and COVID-19 By Sarah Hawkes and Kent Buse LONDON “Is my lipstick protecting me against COVID-19?” ranks as one of the more intriguing e-mail queries we have received from a member of the public since we began coordinating the world’s largest tracker of sex-disaggregated data on the pandemic. In fact, the question points to an important universal truth regarding public health. We established the tracker in March 2020 because we thought that COVID-19 was unlikely to be equally distributed in any population. That hunch has proved correct. Our data show, for example, that women are more likely than men to get tested (and vaccinated) for COVID-19, less likely to be hospitalised, much less likely to have a severe infection requiring admission to an intensive-care unit, and around 30 per cent less likely to die from the disease. ....

PMNCH named high scorer on gender equality in global health 8 March 2021 Reading time: PMNCH has been recognized as a high-scoring organization in the latest annual report from Global Health 50/50, Gender equality: Flying blind in a time of crisis. The 2021 report reviewed 201 organizations to assess how gender equality is being advanced within organizations and health programmes, taking an in-depth look at gender in health-related COVID-19 responses. PMNCH was ranked in the top 20% of the sample overall, which includes UN organizations, governmental agencies, international NGOs, research organizations, private sector companies and others. Gender equality: Flying Blind in A Time of Crisis Format 08 March 2021 GENEVA – The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria is honored to be ranked as one of the “12 very high-scoring” organizations on gender equality in the Global Health 50/50 Report, released today. The report, entitled Gender equality: Flying Blind in A Time of Crisis, surveyed 201 global health organizations to assess how gender equality is being advanced both within the organizations and in the health programs they run.
