CurlMix founders and high school sweethearts, Tim and Kim Lewis, turned down a $400,000 Shark Tank offer in 2019.
Last month, the couple launched an equity crowdfunding campaign for their haircare brand and raised over $1 million within four hours. In less than seven weeks, CurlMix has raised over $4.2 million.
Over 7,000 investors have contributed to the Wefunder campaign since it was launched on April 6th. According to the Wefunder campaign, the couple always knew they wanted to build a life and business. Now, they have a chance to create wealth in their community thanks to the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act (JOBS) Act. ....

Just a few weeks into 2021, there have already been multiple billion-dollar beauty M&A deals, including the Estée Lauder Cos. Inc.’s deal to acquire the rest of Deciem, parent company of The Ordinary, and Shiseido inking a deal to sell its personal care business to CVC Capital.
There have also been smaller deals, as venture capitalists continue to back beauty companies.

The Chicago couple known for turning down a Shark Tank deal a few years ago just raised over $2 million for CurlMix. The brand is part of the Listener Brands portfolio and has only been around since 2015.
What’s the secret to their rapid success? The company launched an equity crowdfunding campaign that was driven by a loyal community of followers.
“So far we have raised ~$2.3M in a little over 2 days,” shared the CurlMix team on the brand’s Instagram page. “But the number that stands out most to us is that it was raised by a little over ~3,800 investors which means the average investor is putting in about ~$600.” ....

The Chicago Couple Behind Black-Owned Brand CurlMix Raises Over $1 Million Within 4 Hours
Black-owned brand CurlMix is breaking the internet with the launch of its equity crowdfunding campaign.
Listener Brands, the parent company of CurlMix and 4C ONLY, is allowing consumers to invest and unlock opportunities for generational wealth. Thousands of people have invested since the campaign launched on the morning of April 6th. In less than four hours, the company reached the million-dollar mark in funds raised.
