Hickory Man Again Arrested on Fugitive Warrant from Georgia Roger Junior Ussery Hickory Man Again Arrested on Fugitive Warrant from Georgia May 17, 2021 40-year-old Roger Junior Ussery, who lists addresses on 14th Avenue S.E. and on 14th Street N.E. in Hickory, was arrested by Hickory Police Saturday (May 15) on a felony grand jury arrest warrant as a fugitive awaiting extradition to another state. He was also served with warrants for failure to appear on charges of driving while license revoked and allowing a motor vehicle to be driven with no registration. Ussery is wanted by the Columbia Co. Sheriff’s Office in Appling, Georgia (near Augusta) for felony larceny. He was previously arrested by Hickory Police on fugitive warrants from Georgia on December 29, 2020, and on February 10 and March 9 of this year, as previously reported by WHKY. ....
This article is written in response to the many recent articles in the Hickory Daily Record and Newton Observer about requests to remove the historic statue of a Confederate soldier. The statue has been in that spot on the grounds of the old Courthouse â now Catawba County Museum of History since it was erected in 1907. Until recent years there was never a controversy or outcry over its location or its meaning. My great-uncle George W. Rabb, a Catawba County official, Confederate soldier, and local businessman was instrumental in getting the statue erected. He solicited his friends who fought alongside him and those who felt called to contribute to the erection of the statue to remember the dead. George Rabb did a lot for Catawba County. He served as county treasurer, was an owner of Providence Mill in Maiden, and represented the county in the N.C. state legislature among other worthy achievements. ....
Homeless Hickory Woman Arrested for Multiple Probation Violations Lorenda Ann-Marie Malava Homeless Hickory Woman Arrested for Multiple Probation Violations May 3, 2021 38-year-old Lorenda Ann-Marie Malava, who is listed as a homeless person from Hickory, was arrested by Hickory Police at about 4:20 last Wednesday afternoon (April 28) for felony and misdemeanor probation violations. The felony warrant was issued on February 23 and the misdemeanor warrants on April 5. Malava is on probation as she serves a 24-month suspended sentence following a December 2020 conviction in Catawba County for felony possession of a schedule II controlled substance. Malava was taken into custody without incident Wednesday at a gas station on 1st Avenue S.W. in Hickory. She was jailed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility with bond set at $10,000, secured. An appearance in Superior Court was scheduled today in Newton. ....
38-year-old Olivia May Pratt of Mocksville, N.C. was arrested by Hickory Police at about 11:30 a.m. last Wednesday (April 28) for a felony probation violation. ....
Granite Falls Man Arrested in Hickory for Obtaining Property by False Pretenses Austin Lee Barnette Granite Falls Man Arrested in Hickory for Obtaining Property by False Pretenses April 21, 2021 26-year-old Austin Lee Barnette of McCall Town Road in Granite Falls was served a bill of indictment by Hickory Police at about 9 a.m. Sunday (April 18). He was charged with felony obtaining property by false pretenses. The warrant for his arrest was issued on March 29. Barnette was also charged with attempted breaking & entering a motor vehicle. The suspect was taken into custody without incident at the Budget Inn on Highway 70 S.W. in Hickory. Barnette was placed in the Catawba Co. Detention Facility under a $15,000 secured bond. An appearance in Superior Court was scheduled for April 26 in Newton. He’ll also appear in District Court on the B&E charge on May 19. ....
