Scottish audiologists sound out acquisition opportunities south of the Border

A Scottish audiology business whose Glasgow clinic is thought to be among the biggest independent facilities in Europe is on the verge of completing two acquisitions that will further its presence in England.
The Hearing Clinic UK, owned by brothers Chris and Martin Stone, is already on course to nearly double turnover from the £2.1 million recorded during the year to the end of July as patients look to sidestep NHS backlogs. The acquisitions of the English practices are expected to further boost revenues by between £2m and £4m. ....

It now has seven branches, in Edinburgh, Stirling, Yorkshire, Cheshire, Staffordshire, Merseyside and its headquarters in Glasgow, and is on track to acquire further businesses in 2021 and roll out a franchise model.
The Stone brothers followed in the footsteps of their grandfather who was posted to the audiology department of Glasgow Royal Infirmary after the Second World War, then subsequently went on to build a portfolio of clinics in 1963, which their father continued to expand until 2008, spanning Scotland, England and southern Spain.
The brothers aided in the transfer over to Amplifon, the world’s largest retailer of hearing devices when their father and grandfather retired and sold up. Before his passing in 2014 their grandfather, who would have celebrated his centenary in May this year, was awarded for being the longest practicing audiologist in the UK in 2006. ....
